Update: Barricaded suspect reportedly kills himself after 48-hour standoff in Valinda

A man armed with a gun remained barricaded inside a Valinda home on Saturday, March 11, 23 hours after deputies first responded to a report of shots fired, authorities said.

The standoff began around 2:30 p.m. on Friday after deputies responded to the residence in the 16900 block of Wing Lane for a report of gunshots fired inside the home, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Alejandra Parra. An exchange of gunfire erupted after the suspect opened fire on the deputies.

The suspect fired several shots while inside the home, though there have been no reports of anyone being struck by gunfire.

One woman was taken to a hospital for an injury, though details on her condition were not immediately available, Parra said.

Nearby homes were evacuated on Friday, and the evacuation order remained in effect Saturday afternoon. A shelter was opened by the Red Cross for displaced residents at Workman High School, 16303 Temple Ave in City of Industry.

Authorities’ attempts to make contact with the suspect have been unsuccessful, Parra said.

The identity of the man and whether it was his home had not been determined Saturday morning.

Anyone with information about the standoff should contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Compton Station at 310-605-6500. If you prefer to provide information anonymously, you may call “Crime Stoppers” by dialing 800-222-TIPS (8477)
